If you are seriously interested in getting Bernese Mountain Dog from us, please be aware that this is a lifetime commitment and we are quite serious about the people we entrust with the future of our beloved puppies. Please send us an email or message with a detailed explanation of your situation and why you think a Berner is the right dog for you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you would like to know the answer to. While we understand many children play a large role in helping to care for the family dog, please understand that the financial commitment and ultimate responsibility falls on the shoulders of the adults in the household, so please make sure that they are the ones reaching out for that first contact. Here are some important things that we see as important in the process of selecting families to become a part of the Arbrook family.

  1. We do not just sell puppies with breeding rights. We believe breeders need to be educated individuals who are willing to uphold the standards of the breed and need a mentor to help guide them in the process of being a breeder.

  2. We will have never and will never cross our dogs to create a designer breed.

  3. We require all families who would like a puppy from us to feed raw for the duration of the dog’s life. We want the best for our dogs and want them to live as long as possible - feeding raw is a large component of that.

  4. We are happy to sell family companions but also value families who are interested in participating with their four-legged partner in Dog Sports.

  5. We like to stay in contact with our puppy families and expect to be contacted with life updates (good and bad) for the duration of their lives.

  6. We look for people who are willing to listen and learn and constantly better themselves as owners.

  7. We look for people who are passionate about the breed.

Sometimes it can seem intimidating to reach out to a responsible breeder as they know so much and can seem to almost interrogate you. While it might seem daunting at first, you should feel comfortable in knowing that this comes from a place of care for their dogs and they want to ensure they set you up for success as an extended part of their family. It is important to note that it is not expected that you be an expert. Often times there can be an overwhelming amount of information that is difficult to sift through and decipher what is more important. It is pertinent to find a breeder you feel comfortable with as it becomes a wonderful partnership that at the centre of it, is about supporting a dog we both care about to the best of our combined ability.
